The Challenge – replacing biomass heating with a greener, safer alternative

Warwick Mill Business Park, a stunning stone-built site steeped in industrial heritage, faced a critical heating challenge. Their aging pellet-fed biomass boiler was not only inefficient and unreliable, the heating setup was raising health and safety concerns, particularly about the possibility of a potential carbon monoxide leak from a combustion boiler at the end of it’s life. The system was costly to maintain and increasingly difficult to service, all while trying to heat a large, poorly insulated stone structure with single-glazed windows and no viable option for retrofitting insulation. The owners demonstrated a forward-thinking approach by upgrading the heating system to a safe and compliant solution for both occupants and public, and decided to make the change to an all electric heating system.

The EHS Solution – 24kw Electric Boiler utilising existing renewable energy

EHS installed a reliable three-phase electric boiler. With a maximum output of up to 24 kw, our electric boiler was ideally suited for the building’s heat loss profile. We utilised the existing infrastructure to take advantage of Warwick Mill’s unique asset: a 10 kw hydroelectric generator. By repurposing the mill’s historic relationship with water, we moved towards a cleaner energy future. Coupled with a large three-phase solar array, the new system ensures energy self-sufficiency, cost savings, and a significantly reduced environmental impact.

The Outcome – peace of mind, safety, and comfort

The result is a safe, reliable, and efficient heating system. The dangers of carbon monoxide and smoke are gone, replaced by the peace of mind that comes from electric heating. The new system has also freed up more usable space. With minimal servicing required and the full use of on-site microgeneration, Warwick Mill Business Park is now saving thousands of pounds annually while dramatically reducing its carbon footprint.

What our client said

“We are thrilled with the transformation. The new electric boiler system from EHS has brought back peace of mind, safety, and comfort to our historic building. Knowing we’re now heating the mill using clean energy—hydro and solar—is incredibly satisfying. It’s reliable, cost-effective, and has lifted a huge weight off our shoulders.”
